Speedwork, A Great Item Donated and a Dinner I Was Lucky to Attend

So today was one of those busy days.  Some much going on at work, soccer practice for my son, and a speed workout looming.  Todays’s workout was 10 x 400m at a goal of 80 sec with a short 100m recovery.  Of course once again it was ridiculously windy with a big change of weather coming so I knew this was going to be tough.  Joe Warwick was kind enough to join me again and after a solid warm up we alternated the 400’s.  The first one was too fast but all the others until the last one was slow due to the wind.  That wind really stood me up!  No matter how much the wind helps as a tail wind you always lose more when you hit the head wind.  It was like trying to run through a wall.  We got it done and that is about all I can say about it.   Tomorrow is some distance and the a LONG pace  run Sunday.

When I planned to be in Boston I has asked Jen Van Allen from Runners World (who I have gotten to know a bit both through a mutual friend and from when I ran the Runner’s World Marathon Challenge for Boston back in 2010-2011) if she would be kind enough to donate a copy of her book, “The Runner’s World BIG BOOK of Marathon and Half Marathon Training” signed by all the authors, to the Maccabi 5K for my to use as one of the awards.  She at the time graciously said yes!   With all that has transpired Jen not only still got this done but remembered to send it to me.  Knowing how traumatic the Boston Marathon was for Jen and her family this meant a ton to me.  It shows how amazing runners are and how lucky I feel to be one of then.

My Little Mention in the Book..

After the run I was about to take my son to soccer practice when I got a message from Boston Pete asking if I wanted to join the group of folks that ran at Boston this year to the “celebration dinner that never happened.”  Since I was at one time planning to be there with them, and until the day before still debating running, it was nice to be included.   I took my son to soccer and when it was done I joined the group.   Pete had my bib and race bag to give me although I told him prior to pick up a large shirt for him as I could not wear it anyway.   It was great to hear there stories and to feel a part of this group that I had planned to run with and will run with again.  This makes me want to run well all the more at the Maccabiah Games so my decision was not a waste.

The best part was that during this dinner the AMAZING Boston Police and other agencies including the FBI apprehended one of the terrorists ALIVE.  One dead and one who can give us some information and perhaps a sense of JUSTICE.  Thank you to all those that helped those effected by this horrific series of events and those that caught the scum that cause it all..
