Double Thursday is Twice the Fun!

Today started with a nice easy 6:00am “hunger run”.  This run is done first thing in the am with only water and a cup of black coffee prior.  The pace is relaxed.   I ran my regular CR South HS Loop which has some nice hills. Now that it is summer and school is out it was fairly quiet on the loop.  I saw Joe Warwick as he was driving to the school for his Physics in Flight summer camp.  Alway nice to see my old training and coaching partner!  This morning it was already  fairly warm and quite humid.  For an early run it was good Maccabiah training for sure.

After a really packed work day I got in a second run after my wife Leslie got home.  As there was a line of severe thunderstorms on the way I knew I had to get out quickly and hope I could get the run in.  With a tornado watch in the area I did not want to be out running when the storms hit!  The workout was 6 miles with 6 x 1 min at faster than 5K pace with 1 minute recovery at the relaxed run pace.  I have a modified version of my 5 mile loop that makes it 6 miles but I decided better to do the 5 mile loop and then run the last mile around my bock just in case the storm hit I would be closer to home!  I started the run and could see the dark clouds approaching so I was a bit worried it could get ugly.  Usually I start my first 1 minute pickup at 2 miles but I started a bit early to make sure I got the 6 repeats in on the 5 mile course.  The repeats all went well,  except that after the first one minute interval I hit the stop button instead of the lap button. Duh!  I realized it when I looked back down to see how much recovery I had left.  I probably missed about 30 sec of running so maybe add 120m to my run..   One interval was a bit slow but it was up hill and the wind was gusting fairly good at that point so I know the effort was fine.  It was also really humid so good Maccabiah training again!  I finished the 5 miles and started looping around my block when I heard a really loud “BOOM!” as I was going past my house.  Well, 5.38 (5.45?)miles was good enough..  It was time to get inside and take shelter!  Good thing because the skies opened up just after I got in.  I was just drinking my recovery drink when it started…

Tonight another core/pushup session…
